On Saturday, June 25, 2016 the Deering Estate will open its doors for guests to explore and see many different butterfly species that are living within the area. Walk around the estate and see Dina Yellow, Dingy Purplewing, Atala butterflies and the nearly 40 species onsite. There will be free guided butterfly walks from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. The Deering Estate is the habitat of several rarely seen species of butterflies. The Estate admission fee for adults is $12 and for children ages 4-14 the ticket is $7.
Last May, Mayor Carlos Gimenez joined and signed the National Wildlife Federation’s Mayors’ Monarch Pledge in showing its commitment to ensure that specific actions will be made to aid the monarch and other pollinators in Miami-Dade County and Miami-Dade Parks. Mayors and local government chief executives nationwide are one in saving the monarch butterfly which experienced a 90% population decrease in the last 20 years.
